Abstract: Vertical City for Jing Jin Ji
Day 1 at 9:20
As farming technology improves the ratio of urban to rural dwellers will continue to increase. When this ratio reaches 80/20, we will only need 1.5 billion farmers and over 2 billion rural people will migrate to cities. That’s about 50 million people per year over the next 40 years.
Cities do need workers to support new industries, but are not equipped to house these larger populations. The migration will cause loss massive traffic, pollution and lack of sustainability with regard to freshly grown local food.
The Vertical City concept is a suggested solution which takes advantage of large scale urban planning, current building technology and a vision to grow skyward. This session is designed to open the discussion.
